What are Life Cycle Assessments (LCA)?

LCA is an internationally recognised way of calculating your carbon emissions.

LCA looks at business activities, products and services have an impact on the environment. An LCA is an internationally standardised methodology which quantifies those impacts across all stages of a product or business life cycle. Typically, the results of an LCA are presented in terms of Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.
An LCA is carried out in accordance with the Standards ISO 14040-14044 and typically contains the following sections:

  1.  Definition of objectives, system boundaries and scopes

  2. Life Cycle Inventory - material & energy used, and generated emissions  

  3. Impact assessment:

  • A Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is a method used to determine the potential environmental impact of a product or service during its life cycle from raw material extraction through to the processing, manufacturing, distribution, use, and disposal or recycling.

  • In the package you will receive a full LCA Report, a third party report (if required), and a condensed report version for marketing and promotions. In addition, you will receive a set of recommendations that will help you develop improvement strategies, actions and targets. We will issue one of two Certifications (Physical and digital) which reflect the stage of your journey to becoming carbon neutral.

  • Yes.

    Building projects which are existing a yet to commence be carbon neutral. AL Civil Design in partnership with Carbon LCA Certified can work with you to calculate the carbon footprint of your building and put you on the path to Green Star approved certification. This process requires several steps:

    1. Quantify greenhouse gas emissions by completing an LCA study consistent with international standards

    2. Based on the LCA develop strategies and actions to reduce emissions

    3. Reduction strategies are implemented until net zero is achieved, or

    4. Net zero is achieved via various strategies.

  • The cost of an LCA depends very much on the type and complexity of the business, its service and products. Initially we will conduct a short interview with you in order to understand your operations and following that we will provide you with an obligation free quote with Carbon LCA Certified.
